Montalcino & Montepulciano

Montepulciano Area: Montepulciano is a unique town in Southern Tuscany famous for its Nobile wine. Built along a narrow limestone ridge, Montepulciano is perched on a hilltop in a panoramic position and is surrounded by 15th century defensive walls. According to legend, it was founded by the Etruscan King Porsenna of Chiusi. In Roman times it was the seat of a garrison guarding the main roads of the area.

Wines: The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano primarily comes from the vine variety Prugnolo Gentile, a cloned reproduction of Sangiovese Grosso.  The wine is aged for at least two years in oak casks before DOCG exam and bottling, and at least three years for the designation "riserva." Harvested grapes are carefully chosen, and only the best are put toward the production of the Nobile wine. The other grapes are used for the red wine of Montepulciano or for the table-wine.

Montalcino Area:
Montalcino is South of Siena and has always been of capital importance due to the town’s strategic position on top of a hill. Now, the town offers fabulous views of Tuscany and its olive orchards, vineyards and small villages.

Wines: The famous Brunello di Montalcino is lauded by wine critics and sought by wine collectors around the world. The region exclusively produces the wine from the Sangiovese Grosso vines. A deep ruby color, Brunello features rich flavors and tannins, giving it the potential to age for decades. DOCG law requires a minimum of five years before Brunello di Montalcino can go on the market, six for Riserva.
