Area: Piedmont, in the Northwest corner of Italy, is dotted with castles, vineyards, and mist covered hills. Translated as “at the foot of the mountain,” Piedmont is adjacent to the Alps and is a mecca for gourmet travelers (white truffles and chocolate) and wine lovers. It is easiest reached from Turin, the principal city in the region.

Wine: The main grape grown in Piedmont is the Nebbiolo, which is the main grape of the world renowned Barolo and Barbaresco among others. Nebbiolo comes from “nebbia,” or fog, because of a whitish coat that covers the grapes and the heavy morning fog that encapsulates the region and gives the grapes an ideal climate to grow. Both Barolo and Barbaresco are full-bodied dry red wines with high acidity levels and well-structured tannins. Many of the Piedmont wines are are produced on small family estates.

The tour begins with a beautiful drive with scenery of rolling hills, speckled with castles and hilltop estates. You and your guide will explore a wine estate and taste Piedmont wines.

Full day tours are available Monday through Saturday.
