Salone del Gusto -Slow Food International Festival in Turin

& Gourmet Experience in Tuscany

21-27 October 2010


21 Oct: Arrival in Torino for Slow Food's biannual Salone del Gusto. Check in at hotel in the central part of Torino. There will be a brief meeting late in the day for tour information and distribution of tickets for the Salone del Gusto.

22-23 Oct:  Daily entrance to Salone del Gusto – Lingotto Fiere…..These two days everybody is free to do as they please at Salone del Gusto. Taste products and participate in seminars (remember to book seminars online well in advance).  Dinner at a local restaurant in Turin both nights. Wines included.

24 Oct:  Torino – Colonnata North Tuscany Bolgheri and Suvereto, land of Supertuscan (coastal region of Tuscany, 60 km south of Pisa, facing Elba Island)
Depart in the morning for Tuscany, stopping in Colonatta, a
fantastic village in the Apuan Alps in Tuscany, where quarrymen still work to extract Carrara's white marble.  We will visit a family factory that produces Lard of Colonnata, white with a pink streak, which adds to the beauty and taste. Lunch in Colonnata. Wines included.

Continue down to the coastal region of Tuscany and arrive in Suvereto, a tiny medieval village facing the Island of Elba. We will be staying at a medieval convent in the historical part of the village.  Dinner at a local restaurant, menu based on Bottarga and Palamita Presidia Slow Food. Wines included.


25 Oct:  Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti Classico
Morning departure for Brunello di Montalcino wine area, stopping at Frantoio Franci awarded as the best Olive Oil in Italy, and tasting 4 types of Extra Virgin oils.

Then it is off to a breeding farms of Cinta Senese, wild white and balck pig, presidia of Slow Food. Lunch with Cinta Senese with Brunello Wines Tasting. Afternoon departure for Chianti Classico where we will stay the night. Dinner in a family trattoria in Castellina in Chianti, wines included.

26 Oct:  Chianti Classico Region

Today we will visit Greve and  one of the most ancient gourmet shop in Italy, the Antica Macelleria Falorni, where we will taste Tuscan Ham, Senese, the Noble Salami of Heavy in Chianti, and their specialty, Bistecche Fiorentine di Chianina. A light lunch will be organized in a butchery in the Panzano in Chianti, a fantastic  experience at Macelleria Cecchini Dario. Afternoon visit to the heart of the Chianti region, and a Top winery such as:  Castello di Ama or Fontodi or Castello di Fonterutoli or Isole Olena or Montevertine or Capannelle, Castellare di Castellina . Dinner in a top restaurant in Chianti Classico. Wines  included.

27 Oct:  Departure for Rome Fiumicino International Airport.

  • Bus Trasportation of 15/25  seats from Turin to Rome (from 24th October to the 27th October to Rome Airport)

Your guide for the trip an expert in Food and Wine, as well as tourism. He has attended wine courses at the Le Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux, and has a Diploma at the Wines & Spirit Education Trust of London, in order to be eligible to take the Master of Wine. He has also attended courses on olive oil at the Associazione Olivicoltori Toscani.

The price does not includes: Airfare ticket to reach Italy and Turin, transfers from airport to hotel upon arrival, Transfers to different airports for people who are not flying back from Rome Fiumicino airport. Baggage insurance.

Booking information: We are now taking pre-booking reservations, since this event receives worldwide attention, and hotels will be in high demand. Pre-Booking of the tour must be sent before 01th of March.

Deposit of 300 euros per person must be sent before 20th April (not refundable). Payment of the rest of the price before the 20th September (not refundable).

Cancellation policies: If the minimum number of participants it is not achieved before the 30 of March the tour will be cancelled or eventually modified for the people who have booked.
